There are times when I don’t feel like writing. It’s not because I don’t know what to write about, it’s because I don’t feel inspired to write. But one thing I have learned is that when it comes to writing, you can’t depend on your feelings. Here are five things you can do when you don’t feel inspired to write.
Read articles that give tips on what you can do when you don’t feel like writing.
That’s exactly what I did when I did not feel motivated to write. I read other articles that suggested taking a walk, listening to music, reading, or doing something creative like coloring in an adult coloring book. Although these were good tips, not all of them were practical. For example, going for a walk is a great idea, but I could not do that at 10:00 at night. However, reading a book, listening to music, and coloring were all good tips that I could easily do.
Use blog templates.
If you’re having trouble coming up with a good title or how to format your blog post, you can use blog post templates to help. They will give you ideas of the types of blog posts you can write. They also contain instructions on how to format your blog post. Blog post templates help you to work faster and to overcome writer’s block. There are different types of blog posts such as “How to” posts, list blog posts, “what is” blog posts, etc.
Write, even if you don’t feel like it.
If you depend on how you feel, most likely nothing would get done. For example, if I did not feel like writing my first book, I probably never would have become an author. Write about your feelings and why you feel the way you do. While you are writing, inspiration may strike and you may finally come up with a brilliant topic to write about.
Read material that you have already written or published.
Sometimes, if it’s been a long time since I’ve read one of my own books that I published or one of my blog posts, I will pick up one of them to read to remind me that I am a very creative person and an amazing author. That usually inspires me to start writing.
Stop acting like writing is a chore.
Before all of the deadlines, contracts, and the need to make a living, writing used to be fun. You can make it fun again. When you write your first draft, don’t worry about sentence structure, and don’t put pressure on yourself to make your writing perfect. Just put your pen on the paper (or your fingers on the keyboard) and let the words flow freely. When you have completed your first draft, then you can proofread and edit it to make your writing look more professional.
I often find that the hardest part about writing is getting started. But the above tips should inspire you to come up with your next brilliant blog post or book. Remember, you are an amazing author. Reading some of your own material that you published will remind you of that. Stop putting pressure on yourself and put the fun back into your writing.
